Intended or not, this is a great review. Hopefully some among that group of magic makers will read it and be nourished by the scope of your appreciation. It makes me even more sorry to be missing the Firebird, but I chose Gregory Maqoma instead and your words will remind me to unwrap myself.
I watched it. I cried it. I was changed. That is all. Thank you for writing this. "People are amazing. They make things that can rattle around inside your little self." Yes. Yes. And things that burst your heart open and allow you to breathe a new and believe a different world is still possible.
I started reading this then had to stop cos I'm going to watch it tomorrow afternoon. I have a thing about not reading write-ups of shows until I see them cos I like to go in with no expectations. I'll come back and read this after the show 🤗
The way you describe your reaction to 'Firebird' reminds me of a child, who has no preconceptions or judgments lurking in the corners of her mind, ready to leap in and cast shadows over her innate delight.

Oh, I hope Gregory Maqoma is wonderful!

Oh, I'm so glad you enjoyed it as much as I did, Toni! It was incredibly special. I love our South African dancers so much too.
I love your piece for so many reasons.
Thank you, Jane.

Yes, it's exactly like that. Children are so open, and I felt like a child, full of amazement and zing.
This is why art matters!
How serendipitous to read this on the day we will be seeing this, experiencing this Work...O! Hugely excited.
Oooh! Lucky you! I hope you love it.
